TORBAY ATHLETIC CLUB TROPHY TO BE INTRODUCED

Updated: Aug 30

There will be an extra incentive for local runners at the Ocean Healthcare Torbay Half Marathon when the event takes place on the English Riviera this September.

In recognition of the history and heritage of the event, which was first staged in 1992, The Torbay Athletic Club Trophy will be awarded to the first male and female athlete to cross the finish line with a Torbay postcode.

It was members of Torbay Athletic Club who founded the event more than thirty years ago, with the former Chairman and current board member, Greg Fines, having been involved in setting up the half marathon at the outset.

Greg says, “It is a lovely idea to introduce this trophy and our thanks go to Taurus Events, who have now taken over the organisation of the half marathon and 10k. The Torbay Half Marathon has been a labour of love for myself and several members of the Athletic Club for three decades and we are pleased to retain an association with it.”

Suzi Cumberland, Managing Director of Taurus, said, “We wanted to recognise the incredible work that Torbay Athletic Club have put in to establish this event, and this seemed a fitting way of doing so, whilst also adding an extra layer of local interest.”

She continued, “We’re also grateful that Greg and his team are providing important practical support and advice as a new chapter for this event begins.”

Each winner will receive a trophy, plus a memento as a permanent keepsake for their achievement. They will also receive a free entry into the annual Torbay Half Marathon.

The Ocean Healthcare Torbay Half Marathon also features a 10k and will be staged on Sunday 29th September. Over a thousand entries have already been received since the events were opened a few months ago.
