There will be an extra incentive for local runners at the Torbay Half Marathon when the event takes place on the English Riviera this September.
In recognition to the history and heritage of the event, which was first staged in 1992, The Torbay Athletic Club Trophy will be awarded to the first and male and female athlete to cross the finish line with a Torbay postcode.
Members of Torbay Athletic Club founded the event more than thirty years ago, and, along with the trophy bearing their name, the club will be involved in supporting the delivery of the half marathon.
Suzi Cumberland, Managing Director of new event organisers Taurus, said, “We recognise the incredible work that Torbay Athletic Club put in over the years to establish this event, and the trophy seems an an appropriate way to acknowledge it.”
Each winner will receive a trophy to keep for a year, plus a memento as a permanent keepsake for their achievement. They will also receive a free entry into the annual Plymouth Half Marathon.
The Torbay Half Marathon also features a 10k and will be staged on Sunday 21st September. A few thousand runners are set to take part across the two event distances.
