Weather Update – Torbay Half Marathon and 10k 2024

Weather Update – Torbay Half Marathon and 10k 2024

27 September 2024

Dear Participants,

As you may have seen a yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met office for Sunday 29th September for strong winds and rain.

At present, the level of warning and wind speeds estimated does not pose a risk to the participants of the event. However, due to the weather forecasted, we will likely have to make reasonable adjustments to the infrastructure on the site/start and finish area.

  • Banners – there will be no banners on the ‘ped’ barriers lining the course.

  • Event Village – gazebos will be securely weighted down with additional material, or removed entirely if necessary.

  • Start/finish – the setup at the start and finish will be simplified to minimise the risk of falling equipment. The gantry will still be in situ and some signage may be omitted.

  • Mile markers – fewer on-course mile markers will be displayed, but we will endeavour to ensure distances are marked at regular intervals.

The welfare of our participants, volunteers, staff and spectators remains our number one priority and we are committed to making all necessary adjustments to safeguard everyone involved. We will periodically review the forecast and current conditions to decide on any further steps to be taken to further mitigate risk.

If the Met office escalates the weather warning, we will issue further communications as appropriate.

In the meantime, we ask you to be mindful of the weather forecast for Sunday. Please ensure you are appropriately dressed for the weather, leave sufficient time for travel and take extra care of yourself and your fellow participants on the course.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We deeply appreciate the effort each of you has put into preparing for the event.
